Construction of Electric Vehicles

In general Electric Vehicles are of three types:-

1.   Online Electric Vehicles

2.   Onboard storage type Electric Vehicles

3.   Hybrid Electric Vehicles

In Online Electric Vehicles the electric power required by the vehicle is provided by external sources, such as through overhead wire or by rails etc. This method of providing power is generally used in Electric Trains, Trams, etc. The vehicles used for heavy load.


Onboard storage type Vehicles have onboard storage of electricity needed to run the vehicles. Such vehicles are made for personal use such as in electric cars.


Hybrid Vehicles have both internal combustion as well as electric motor to run the vehicle, such vehicles also possess battery to store electricity and can charge the batteries by the internal combustion engines, such vehicles are made to use as personal vehicles in areas where frequent facility of charging the vehicles is not available. 
Construction of Online Electric Vehicles:-
    Online Electric Vehicles are the heavy load type, or we can say public transport vehicles.
     In such vehicles highly powerful traction motors are used (three phase induction motors are used as traction motors). The electricity required by the motors to run is directly drawn either from overhead lines or from especially designed power rails. Since, these vehicles works on very high power they possess highly powerful safety instruments, such as:- Circuit breakers, relays, etc.




Construction of Onboard storage type Electric Vehicles:-

     The Onboard storage type Electric vehicles have a battery pack installed in it which stores the electricity and feed it to the motor when it requires. These vehicles normally build as personal use vehicles, such as:- Electric Cars, Scooters, etc.

These vehicles have electric motors controlled by power-electronic circuit. The controls and looks of these vehicles are similar to internal combustion engine vehicles.


Construction of Hybrid Electric Vehicles:-
The Hybrid Electric vehicles possess with an electric motor as well as an internal combustion engine, allowing it to run on both electricity as well as gasoline (sometimes on CNG, LPG, or on Diesel), making it a superior vehicles for anywhere. It also consists of a generator which generates electricity to charge the battery pack when the vehicle is running on gasoline.
